The local knowledge
Rick Schumann’s tavern serves visitors arriving through an alien spaceport in Siberia. Conversation across species becomes the starting point for Niven’s short explorations of strange customs and unsettling ideas. The venue gives cosmic speculation a human scale: someone still has to run the bar.
